100% speed run of Super Metroid, completed on February 1 2004. Was the world record until February 24 2004. Note that part '5a' is an alternative to part 5, without using the 'murder beam' glitch on mother brain which achieves an end time of 1:01. Author's comments: First off, this run was done on a console, not an emulator. It is the NTSC cartridge. No chance of using save states or slowdown. All pure luck, and a dash of skill, I guess. I don't play the emulator/rom of this game for one simple...

100% speed run of Metroid, done on March 18 2004. The first recorded 100% game of Metroid, was the record until April 10 2004. Metroid does not give a percent completion at the end like other Metroid games, so we simply define 100% as getting all items and beating both bosses.

Pure speed run of Metroid done on January 21 2004. Recorded the same day as the 37:17, but this demo was recorded without collecting the varia suit in an attempt to be faster. Author's comments: I went the same route as the ~37 video, except I did not go into the green area of Brinstar (with the Varia suit). This makes the game much tougher, and regaining energy becomes a more recurring annoyance. This run should have been faster than the Varia Suit one, but the fish coming out of pipes in...

Speed run of Metroid with both bosses beaten, done on April 17 2004. Available in three versions: low quality, normal quality, and 60 fps high quality. Author's comments: After watching sdkess's :32, i finally had a reason to do more than a halfass attempt compared to my :37. Noting that he got 5 E-Tanks, I decided to start trying with 3, then taking a cue on the Zero Mission any%, I decided to grab the Hi-Jump too, which seems to help in a couple of areas. As my time shows, I could've gotten a...

Pure speed run of Metroid with both bosses beaten, done on January 21 2004. Was the record until April 6 2004. Author's comments: I thought there were lots of Metroid 1 movies around (or at least some Nesticle ones from years ago), but apparently there are hardly any at all made. This ~37-minute run was more or less a "refresher" run so I could try the No Varia run I recorded after. The items I get in this run are: four Energy Tanks (all along the way of running through), the 1...

Speed run of Metroid with 100% item collection done on April 10 2004. Available in three versions: low quality, normal quality, and 60 fps high quality. Author's comments: I go a slightly alternate route in this version, and I'm not really sure if my path through Hideout 1/Kraid's is worth doing or not. I did my :29 after this run, so I know I can get a better 100% time if I tried one now, maybe a :54 if I get lucky. Several things I do in the :29 I could utilize in a 100%, and they would help....

100% speed run of Super Metroid, completed on June 4 2004. Available in three versions: low quality, normal quality, and 60fps high quality. Author's comments: Hello. This is my 0:55 100% speed run for Super Metroid, played on the console. I am very pleased with this run, as it beats my old time of 1:00 as well as the previous record of 0:58. Lots of new stuff was done in my run; many things thought up by other players, some by myself. I'd like to thank several people who helped me during this...

100% speed run of Metroid Zero Mission on hard mode in 10 segments, completed on February 22 2004. Was the world record until March 11 2004. Author's comments: This run is, that I'm aware of, the current fastest 100% hard for Zero Mission. But of course, since the game is still relatively new, it is far from optimized, and not flawless, either. I know of a couple things that I would do differently my next time through, and am still not very sure if the route I take is the best or not. Still,...

100% speed run of Metroid Zero Mission on hard mode in 15 segments, completed on March 11 2004. Was the world record until May 1 2004. Author's comments: Hey here's my 1:04:44, it is a little bit different from the 1:11:10, mainly in the approach to the route; the route taken is not very different between each run. Quite a number of changes were the result of suggestions from other players at the ZM gf board. This is pretty much as close as I can get to under an hour 100% on hard right now, so...

The purpose of a NBMB run in Super Metroid is to get as many items as possible after getting bombs, without ever fighting another boss or mini-boss. Although a lot items are easy to get, many require difficult tricks using glitches to achieve, such as items in Maridia and lower Norfair. Available in both mpeg4 and DivX versions. Author's comments: Hey. This is my No Boss/Mini Boss 72% run. 73% is the max, but the last item is dumb. Enjoy.

Single-segment speed run of the Sega Saturn version of Castlevania: Nocturne in the Moonlight (Symphony of the Night in English) as Maria, completed on 7 May 2006. Thanks go to nate for fixing the audio synchronization. Author's comments: Hello. This is my Maria run in Nocturne in the Moonlight (Castlevania Symphony of the Night in the US). As using the Japanese name suggests, this run is on the Japanese Saturn version of the game (which makes sense, as Maria is only playable in the Japanese...

Speed run of Metroid Zero Mission on hard mode with 100% item collection in 15 segments, completed on September 15 2006. Available in three versions: low quality, normal quality, and high quality. Author's comments: Alright, first off, there are some people I would like to thank. Thanks to Nate and DJGrenola for rescuing segment 1 of my run after I thought the disc was ruined. Thanks to Nate and Radix for running these great websites and for capturing the run. Thanks to Sparky for sending me...

100% speed run of Metroid Prime done in 19 segments, completed on August 12 2004. Author's comments: This is something I did earlier in the month (August) for fun. I spent no time practicing anything or planning out the route/power bomb refill collection. The route was already made, it's the one Radix used in his 1:37 with some new changes he thought of (such as collecting the artifact of wild later on, and getting the Main Quarry missile expansion on the first visit once he discovered that can...

Speed run of Metroid with 100% item collection done on March 10 2006. Available in four versions: low quality, normal quality, and 60 fps high/insane quality. Author's comments: I'm still not exactly sure what prompted me to do this run, but here it is. 100% item collection in under 53 minutes (Timed on a stopwatch at 52:23). BRINSTAR 1 This was the main place I used "Spawn Manipulation." The first was in the second hallway (with the 2 Skrees). I killed both Skrees to make sure that...

Speed run of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes in 22 segments, completed on January 6 2008. Available in seven versions: low/normal/high quality DivX, and normal/high/insane/low quality H.264 MPEG-4. Author's comments: I'd like to dedicate this run to the late Mark Haigh-Hutchinson. Several factors contributed to my attempting this playthrough. Firstly, having helped to run Speed Demos Archive for over a year by this point, it was something of an embarrassment to me to be the only administrator never to...

100% speed run of Metroid Prime's European version in 19 segments, completed on January 1 2005. Available in three versions: low quality, normal quality, and 50 fps high quality. Author's comments: This run took me far longer than any of my previous ones - I actually began it pretty much right after finishing the 1:11, IIRC. This is partly because IMO 100% runs are far harder than any% ones (can't really say with low%s, since I've never done a 'proper' low% run), but mainly because I had to...
